Bryant_speaking_at_fdic_mlk_event_2005 In January, 2005, I was honored to speak before the employees of the FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation), on the occassion of the birthday of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., one of my all time heroes.

The speech was entitled "Passing the Torch: Are We Ready?" The entire text of the speech can be downloaded in a Microsoft Word file here Download passing_the_torch_are_we_ready_2005_a_speech_to_the_fdic.doc.

A very special "thank you" to my friend FDIC Chairman Donald Powell (and his chief of staff Jodey Arrington) for extending this invitation to speak. Fdic_chairman_powell_and_bryant_at_mlk_s_1 Chairman Powell and I have known each other for some time now. I have benefited from our many private discussions, and I hope he has as well, on a range of thought provoking issues and topics; from race relations, to Civil Rights, to the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), to issues tied to racism and descrimination, to my own philosophy around what we at Operation HOPE call "the Silver Rights Movement."Fdic_chairman_donald_powell_1

Chairman Powell has also taught several financial literacy courses with me for Banking on Our Future in inner city Washington, D.C., and he has even come and visit with me, in my community in South Central Los Angeles, on a vacation day, …simply because he genuinely wanted to learn more about communities in need — and to keep his word, to me. A good man. Fdic_chairman_powell_and_bryant_at_mlk_s_2

Call on me anytime Chairman Powell. Anytime…
