February_2005_208Detroit, Michigan is lucky to have an organization such as New Detroit in the city, and a leader such as Shirley Stancato as its visionary leader and CEO, along with a STRONG backup — named Dave Gamlin!

It was Shirley and Dave that brought me in to give a speech before city leadership two years ago…

It was Shirley and Dave that approached us about "sparking our movement" around financial literacy in and for Detroit, Michigan…

And it was Shirley, Dave and the entire New Detroit family that provided the local leadership, and then made a commitment to launch a Banking on Our Future, Detroit Program Office — HOUSED at no cost at New Detroit!!

Two powerhouse non-profit leadership organizations working and partnering together for change in community….this is FANTASTIC! The way it should be…

February_2005_205Tomorrow, Tuesday, March 1st,  we will do a morning television interview for the WJBK-TV Fox News Morning Show, meet with financial and government leaders in the city to secure additional volunteer and resource support for the program, and then head over to Davidson Elementary School to do a VIP Banking on Our Future teaching session; featuring Shirley and I, and of course 30 plus young bright lights from the Detroit Public School system, as we announce our intention to partner!

New Detroit is a coalition of leaders representing civil rights and advocacy organizations, human services, health and community organizations, business, labor, foundations, education, media and clergy. The mission of New Detroit is to work as a coalition of Detroit-area leadership addressing the issue of race relations by positively impacting issues and policies that ensure economic and social equity.

Honored to be associated. More information to follow — as we officially launch the actual program office in 10 Detroit Public Schools, in partnership with local financial institutions, insurance companies, credit unions, the school district and local government! Keep you posted…

Onward, with HOPE
